The waste‑free weekly meal planner

The meal planner that finishes the cream.

Recipes ask for 100 ml. The supermarket sells 200 ml. Mealpakt plans your whole week around the packs you actually buy, then makes sure every one of them gets used. Less waste, less money spent, and no more nightly “what shall we eat?”

01The problem

Each of us wastes nearly twice our body weight in food, every year.

Most of it does not happen in fields or factories. It happens at home, one half‑used pack at a time: the rest of the cream, the second leek, the bag of spinach we meant to cook on Thursday.

The cause is surprisingly mundane: recipes are written in grams, but shops sell in packs. No meal planner we know of does the sums in between. Mealpakt does.

02How it works

Four steps to a week that adds up.

  1. 1

    Tell it how you eat

How many people, which days, lunch or dinner. Add dislikes, hard exclusions, a calorie range per portion and the cuisines you love.

  2. 2

Get a week that fits together

Mealpakt chooses dishes that share ingredients, so the other half of the cream becomes Wednesday’s risotto instead of Sunday’s bin.

  3. 3

    Shop one clear list

Grouped by supermarket aisle and counted in real packs, not grams. Share it with a link and tick things off, even without signal.

  4. 4

    Cook, tick, carry over

What you buy fills your pantry, what you cook is deducted, and whatever keeps rolls into next week’s plan. Nothing is forgotten.

03Your kitchen, in numbers

What does waste cost your household?

A rough estimate for a typical European home. Adjust the settings and see what halving your food waste would be worth.

Compared with most homes, you throw away

Based on 69 kg of household food waste per person per year (Eurostat, 2023 data) and an average value of €2.28 per kg (European Commission: 58 million tonnes worth €132 billion).

An estimate to give you a sense of scale, not a promise.

04The difference

The AI suggests. The maths decides.

Other planners let a language model guess. Mealpakt lets it propose dishes, then checks every gram with plain arithmetic: package counts, leftovers, expiry dates and calories. If anything would be left over, the plan goes back for another round until the week adds up.

  • Rounded to the pack sizes on real supermarket shelves
  • Fresh items used within the week, long‑life items carried over
  • Leftovers counted as next week’s ingredients, not as waste

05Features

Everything a busy kitchen actually needs.

Built around one idea, that food you buy should be food you eat, and polished like a native iPhone app.

  1. Pantry

    • Potatoes 1.2 kg
    • Basmati rice 350 g
    • Onions 3

    Planned: Monday’s potato soup

    Leftovers roll forward

The rest of the two kilo potato sack isn’t waste, it’s next Monday. Anything that keeps shapes the following week’s plan.

  2. Use it up

    • Spinach 2 days
    • Greek yoghurt 3 days
    • Feta 6 days

    Cooked first: Wednesday’s risotto

    “Use it up” nudges

Anything in your pantry that expires within three days is flagged, and planned first.

  3. Tonight

    • Leek and potato gratin × 2
    • Portion for tomorrow Lunch

One pan, two meals, nothing left

    Cook once, eat twice

Double tonight’s portion and tomorrow’s lunch is already sorted. Planned, counted and on the list.

  4. Thai green curry

    • Coriander Parsley
    • Peanuts Never
    • Coconut milk 400 ml All of it

    Your taste, the same dish

    Dislikes swapped, not dropped

Can’t stand coriander? It is replaced inside the dish. Allergies and hard no’s never appear at all, not even as a substitute.

  5. Waste score

    96
    Last four weeks
    72818896

    Most binned lately: fresh herbs

    Your weekly waste score

Every week closes with a score, what carried over, and the ingredients you bin most often. Watch it improve.

  • Portions that fit you

Set a calorie range per portion and every dish is scaled to it. No counting, no spreadsheets.

  • Real dishes first

Plans draw on a curated library of real recipes. AI only invents a dish when one is needed to use something up.

  • Recipes from a photo

Snap a cookbook page, your grandmother’s handwritten card or a screenshot, and it becomes a recipe Mealpakt can plan with.

  • A list that works in the shop

Grouped by aisle, counted in packs, in German or English. Share it by link with anyone; ticks sync when the signal returns.

  • It learns your taste

Rate what you cook. Favourites return, and a one‑star dish is never planned again.

  • Twenty‑four cuisines

Rotate through the world’s kitchens or pin Thai to Thursdays. Add quick, air fryer or high protein weeks.

  • Change it in plain words

Reroll a day, drop an evening, or simply write “something lighter on Friday”. Then lock the week.

06Why not just…

Other apps plan meals. Mealpakt plans the shopping basket.

Popular planners are good at recipes and lists. What people tell us they miss is everything in between: the half‑used packs, the leftovers, the subscription that grows every year, and the uneasy question of where their data ends up.

10Questions

Good questions.

Is Mealpakt free?

During the beta, yes: every feature is free, with no limits and no ads. After the beta there will be a base plan that always stays affordable, priced for households rather than for growth charts, plus optional extras for heavy AI use. Beta members will hear about prices well in advance.

Which devices does it run on?

On iPhone, and in any modern browser on Android, Windows, Mac or Linux. A native Android app is on our roadmap.

Does it only work for German supermarkets?

Pack sizes are currently modelled on German supermarkets, and the shopping list comes in German or English. More countries’ supermarkets are next on the list.

Is the app available in German?

The app interface is in English today, while the shopping list can be in German or English. A full German interface is on the roadmap.

Can my partner or flatmates use it too?

Share the shopping list with a link that opens in any browser, no account needed. Full shared households with several accounts are coming.

Do I have to count calories?

No. Setting a calorie range per portion is optional. If you do, Mealpakt scales every dish to fit, so you never have to count anything yourself.

Can it cater for vegetarians or allergies?

Exclude any ingredient, meat or fish included, and it will never appear. Dislikes work more gently: they are swapped for something similar inside the dish.

What happens to my data?

It is stored in the EU with EU providers and used only to plan your meals. We never show ads and never sell or share your data for marketing. Ask, and we delete everything.
